Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about rehab in SC

Still have questions? Call our admissions team 24/7 at 866-326-3365 or verify your insurance above.

How much does drug and alcohol rehab cost in South Carolina?

The cost of rehab in South Carolina varies based on the level of care (detox, residential, outpatient), length of stay (30, 60, or 90 days), and whether you have insurance. With in-network insurance, most SCAT clients pay little to nothing out of pocket. We’ll verify your specific benefits for free in about 60 seconds – just submit the form above or call 866-825-2849.

Does the state of South Carolina pay for alcohol or drug rehab?

South Carolina does provide some publicly funded treatment options through the Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services (DAODAS) and county alcohol & drug abuse authorities. SCAT is a private treatment center and works primarily with commercial insurance and private pay; we do not currently accept Medicaid or Medicare. If you’re unsure of your options, call us – we can help you understand what you qualify for.

What is the average length of stay for alcohol or drug rehab?

Detox typically lasts 3 to 7 days depending on the substance and severity of withdrawal. Residential inpatient treatment most often runs 30, 60, or 90 days – with research consistently showing that longer programs (60+ days) lead to stronger long-term recovery outcomes. Your individual length of stay is determined by clinical assessment and reviewed throughout treatment.

Is South Carolina a zero-tolerance state for alcohol?

Yes – South Carolina enforces a zero-tolerance law for drivers under 21, meaning a BAC of 0.02% or higher results in license suspension. For drivers 21+, the legal limit is 0.08%. Beyond legal consequences, repeated DUIs and alcohol-related incidents are often signs that professional treatment is needed. If alcohol is interfering with your life, our admissions team can help you take the next step.

What’s the difference between detox and rehab?

Detox is the medical process of safely clearing drugs or alcohol from your system while managing withdrawal symptoms – typically 3 to 7 days. Rehab is the longer therapeutic process that follows: residential or outpatient treatment that addresses the underlying causes of addiction through individual therapy, group therapy, dual diagnosis care, and skill-building. At SCAT, both happen on the same campus – clients move from detox to residential without a transfer.

Do you offer Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)?

Yes. When clinically appropriate, we incorporate FDA-approved medications such as Suboxone, Vivitrol, and Naltrexone into treatment for opioid use disorder and alcohol use disorder. MAT is always paired with counseling and behavioral therapy – never used alone. Your treatment team will discuss whether MAT is right for you during clinical assessment.

Does SCAT treat co-occurring mental health disorders?

Absolutely. Our dual diagnosis program treats substance use disorder alongside co-occurring mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and trauma. Treating both conditions simultaneously – rather than separately or sequentially – produces significantly better outcomes. Our master-level clinicians are trained in trauma-informed and integrated dual diagnosis care.

What insurance do you accept?

SCAT is in-network with most major commercial insurers including Cigna, Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Ambetter Health, Magellan Healthcare, Molina Healthcare, MedCost, and Carolina Behavioral Health Alliance. We also offer self-pay and out-of-network options. We do not currently accept Medicaid, Medicare, or Tricare. Verify your specific plan above or call 866-825-2849.

What should I bring to South Carolina Addiction Treatment?

Bring a photo ID, your insurance card, a 7-day supply of any current prescription medications (in original bottles), comfortable clothing for 7-10 days, basic toiletries, and any books, journals, or photos that bring you comfort. Avoid bringing valuables, large amounts of cash, electronics that could distract from treatment, or any substances. We’ll send you a complete pre-admission checklist when you confirm your stay.

How do I get started with treatment at SCAT?

Getting started is simple. Call 866-825-2849 anytime, day or night, or fill out the verification form above. An admissions counselor will conduct a confidential phone assessment, verify your insurance, and walk you through next steps. In many cases we can offer same-day admission. There’s no obligation – the call is just a conversation about whether SCAT is the right fit for your situation.

What happens after I finish residential treatment?

Aftercare planning starts on day one. Before you complete residential treatment, your team builds a personalized continuing care plan that may include sober living referrals, intensive outpatient (IOP) or partial hospitalization (PHP) step-down programs, individual therapy, and connection to local 12-step or SMART Recovery groups. Every SCAT alum gains lifetime access to our alumni community for ongoing support, events, and accountability.

Are SCAT’s facilities and programs accredited?

Yes – SCAT is CARF-accredited (the gold standard for behavioral health programs), LegitScript Certified, an active NAATP Provider Member, and a BBB-Accredited Business with an A+ rating. These credentials verify clinical quality, ethical operations, and patient safety. See the full list of our accreditations below.
